Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, who served as an inspiration to many generations through his sermons, addresses, and writings, was a prominent minister, author and freemason. His book, The Power of Positive Thinking, continues to remain one of the most venerated self-help books since its publishing in 1952. Peale was a member of Midwood Lodge No. 1062. He served as Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of New York from 1948-51, and in recognition of his outstanding service to humanity, he was the recipient of the 33° of Freemasonry in 1959. In 1987, he received Grand Cross Honors from the Southern Jurisdiction AASR. Dr. Peale also served as Imperial Chaplain of Shriners International and Grand Prelate of the Grand Encampment, Knights Templar, U.S.A.
